Mosaic Self Portrait

This mosaic piece is made from over two-thousand 1" square images of cosmetics. The piece explores issues of female vanity and the use of make up and beauty products in enhancing appearances. It relates to the theory of femininity itself being worn as a mask, with this portrait highlighting a physical masking of oneself from others by use of cosmetic application. The pose suggests a confrontational attitude towards the self and others, of someone who does not want to be concealed behind this mask.
